The death of the actress Hayden Panettiere at the age of 36 has prompted an emotional tribute from her former partner, the ex-heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko, who described her as a "talented" individual who "left this world too soon." The Ukrainian former sportsman, who shares an 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, with Panettiere, said his family was navigating a period of profound grief following her death on Sunday in Greenville, South Carolina.

Police have stated that there were no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. The Greenville County Coroner's Office confirmed that crews had responded to a cardiac arrest and that an autopsy found no signs of trauma, though the official cause has yet to be determined. Reports from police dispatchers indicated that emergency crews attempted to resuscitate the actress following a possible overdose, reflecting a long and publicly documented struggle with substance abuse and postpartum depression.

Klitschko, who met Panettiere in Los Angeles when she was 19, posted a moving statement on social media. "Hayden was, although no longer my partner, an important part of my life and the mother of our daughter, Kaya," he wrote. He acknowledged the "darker sides of a very demanding industry" that she faced alongside her immense talent. He pledged that he would always speak of her with respect to their daughter and asked for privacy for the family during this difficult time.

The couple announced their engagement in 2013 and had their daughter in 2014, though they never married. Panettiere's autobiography, published earlier this year, detailed the heart-wrenching decision to agree to Klitschko's request to sign over custody of Kaya when their daughter was three, as the actress grappled with severe postpartum depression and heavy drinking. She wrote of the "gut-wrenching" experience of not living under the same roof as her child and the layers of sadness, resentment, and anger she felt, though she maintained that their bond remained "incredibly strong."
