Russia strikes Kyiv bridge and Odesa vessels, vows to intensify attacks

Russia struck the Northern bridge over the Dnipro river in Kyiv on Sunday, targeting a route used to transport troops and military cargo, the Russian Defence Ministry said. The ministry also said it hit two dry cargo vessels carrying military equipment to the port of Odesa in the north-western Black Sea. In an earlier statement, it said Russian forces had struck a dry cargo vessel east of Odesa overnight, as well as a Nova Poshta logistics centre in Chornomorsk and a data centre in Odesa.

On Sunday, Russia promised to intensify strikes on Ukraine after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Reuters that Kyiv would step up attacks on Russian oil refineries. The ministry said air defence forces had intercepted and destroyed 559 Ukrainian drones between 8pm Moscow time on Saturday and 8am Moscow time on Sunday over multiple Russian regions and above the Azov and Black seas.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the claims made by either side of the conflict.

This is the latest episode in Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, now in its fourth year, in which Moscow has repeatedly targeted civilian infrastructure and energy facilities across the country. Ukraine, defending its sovereignty against Russian aggression, has struck back at oil refineries and military sites deep inside Russian territory, a campaign that Kyiv regards as legitimate self-defence against an occupying army.

The World House, which maintains a dedicated page outlining its support for Ukraine at worldhouse.uk/support, continues to document the consequences of Russia's aggression.
