Body found in Hackney park identified as missing Brazilian chef Dener Marcos Guieiro

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed the discovery of a body in a park in Hackney, east London, believed to be that of Dener Marcos Guieiro, a 28-year-old Brazilian chef who had been missing since the early hours of July 4. Mr Guieiro, originally from Belo Horizonte in Brazil and a resident of Hackney for the past six years, was last seen leaving his home for work, prompting the force to issue a public appeal for assistance in locating him amid growing concerns for his welfare. Tragically, his family have now confirmed that his remains were found in a wooded area of the park on July 18, with it understood that the body had lain undiscovered there for approximately two weeks before its recovery. Formal identification has yet to be completed, and the precise cause of death has not been disclosed by the authorities, though police are understood to have informed the chef's relatives that CCTV footage showed him entering his car carrying his wallet and a black briefcase shortly before he disappeared.

Mr Guieiro's twin sister, Ana Luiza Guieiro, said that detectives had contacted the family in Brazil to inform them of the grim discovery, leaving them confronting not only the immeasurable pain of his loss but also the considerable financial burden of repatriating his remains to his homeland. In an online fundraising appeal, she wrote that her brother had passed away far from his family and everyone who loved him, and that the family was facing a challenge beyond their financial means in bringing his body back to Brazil so that they might say goodbye with dignity and allow him to rest alongside those who always held him dear. She appealed for contributions of any amount, adding that even sharing the campaign would make a substantial difference in helping the family achieve this final act of love. The Metropolitan Police have been approached for further comment regarding the circumstances surrounding Mr Guieiro's death and the ongoing investigation into his disappearance.
